Areas of Practice
Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, and Discrimination
Personal Injury and Wrongful Death
These cases involve representing victims injured from defective products, product failures, automobile crashes and various other negligent acts or professional malpractice. Mr. Hoskins has experience in handling automobile accident cases as well as cases involving death and injury from the use of defective products and pharmaceuticals and exposure to toxic chemicals.
Workplace Discrimination
State and federal laws prohibit discrimination in the workplace based on race, age, or gender.
Employees who are discriminated against are entitled to damages that will restore them to the economic positions they would have occupied but for the unlawful conduct of their employer. These damages include back pay, future pay and the value of lost employment benefits. Compensation can also be obtained for emotional pain; mental anguish; loss of enjoyment of life; inconvenience and other non-economic losses up to certain statutory limits.
Consumer Fraud and Commercial Disputes
Consumer Fraud
Federal and State statutes protect consumers from deceptive trade practices and predatory lending. Examples of predatory lending include:
- Lenders basing the loan amount on the equity in the home, without regard to your ability to pay.
- Lenders including high closing fees or single premium insurance as part of the loan principal, requiring you to pay interest on these fees and premiums with no real benefit to you.
- Lenders hiding the true nature of the loan obligation from you.
Since its inception, the firm has been very active in the field of consumer protection and predatory lending litigation. Mr. Hoskins has been appointed as class counsel in class actions involving allegations of violations of federal and state statutes regulating mortgage lending and has obtained financial recoveries for thousands of Maryland borrowers.
Commercial Disputes
The firm also represents businesses and individuals involved in commercial disputes. These cases involve allegations of breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, interference with contractual or economic relations and unfair dealing.
